This tutorial supplements the on-line help system and is intended to help you understand the basics of the Home Accounting application. It is not designed to teach you accounting or how to manage your check register.
Double-click the Home Accounting application.
About Home Accounting Window
The About Home Accounting window should appear within 15 seconds. At startup this window will automatically close in about 7.5 seconds. The normal way to close the window is to either click on the window or press any typeable key on the keyboard.
Since you did not open an existing data base, Home Accounting creates a new empty data base and opens three or four windows.
Register Window
The first window opened is the register window. This window displays the entries (records) of the current data base by cash and budget accounts.
The window's title shows a data base number preceding the window's name (1:Register). This number is used only to show which window's are related to the same data base.
Home Accounting can have several data bases open at the same time. This may occur if you have a check book for yourself and a check book for a small home business.
Data Base Manager Window
This window allows you to:
Change the active data base (the active data base is the data base that most of the menu selections operate on).
Close a data base. You can only close a data base from this window.
To close a data base, select the data base in this window and click the close button. Closing all the windows of a data base does not close the data base.
The data base manager window is a floating window. This means it appears in front of all normal application windows (non-floating windows). Floating windows can not be closed with the Close Window menu selection.
DB Preferences Window
This window is used to setup your data base.
There are many setting that you can set for a data base. Therefore, the preferences are broken up into logical groupings called views.
On the left side of the window is a scrollable list of icons. Clicking on an icon will select the associated preference view. Below the scrollable list is a Popup menu. You may also select a preference view from this menu.
Please proceed to the file, Setting Up A Data Base.
